C.B.M.R.A. NEWS 2002 - December 31, 2002
Other
then the wind blowing from the North you couldn't ask for a much better day of
sailing. Steve continued to show his speed that he has had of late. I've been
trying to convince him to take it on the road but haven't had much luck with
that.
We
finally figured out how to slow Dave Ramos down. You just let Alex sail and
it distracts Dave just enough. For some reason he has a hard time sailing his
boat and telling Alex where to go as well. The scary thing is however that if
you give Dave some time I am sure he will have that skill mastered fairly
quick. The scariest thing of all is that Alex is demonstrating some of that
speed his Dad has. Man could you imagine two Ramos's on the course at the same
time?
Team
Prey was out on the water as well. It was good to see Steve and Doug out there
again. Dave Scott pulled a few tricks out of his bag on the course and
demonstrated that he still has speed as well. Most importantly Dave clued the
rest of us in that it was a fairly nice day if you stood in the sun.
Thanks Dave!
Texas
Pete was seen being handed over to Dave Ramos for a refit. Jenni Hughes keeps
threatening to come out and sail, so hopefully she will join us again soon.
A
real blast from the past was Tucker showing up. He showed that he remembered
how to sail the 914, but isn't as conditioned for the weather as the rest of
us and headed inside to sail a few races. Maybe he was just trying to test his
timing, but his experiment didn't work to well as his results suffered. I
think the real reason he went inside was so that he could sit with his
girlfriend.
The
club has a new crash boat so come on down and sail with us.
See
you Sunday and stay tuned for a 2003 Schedule of Events!
Happy
New Year!
December 23, 2002
December 2, 2002 I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!
Well
several of us braved the conditions on Sunday to sail at the Chart House.
When we arrived we found winds in the 20's blowing head on into the Chart
House. Sailing at the Chart House was not an option, not to mention that
the Lounge was closing at 1:30 for a private party.
We
considered Fawcett's and Ego Ally, which would have been perfect except
for the fact that there were boats tied up in the sailing area. So we will
try again next week.
Be
sure to check out the December issue of Spinsheet with CBMRA's own Harry
Scott on the cover. There is also a great article about our club's success
at this years Nationals.
Have
a great week!
NOVEMBER 29, 2002 Ladies and gents:
We
will continue our Sunday Sailing series this Sunday December 1st. The first
race gets under way at high noon!
Also
CBMRA is in search of a a motor for our chase boat. Tim has sadly had to
retire the outboard we have been using. If you know of anyone that has one
to lend or a good deal on a used one please let me know. Dave is also
looking into a RC Tug to act as out mark setter and boat retriever. However
it would be much better to have a chase boat.
See
you all on Sunday!
NOVEMBER 25, 2002 A great big thanks to Dave Ramos who has been handling the crash boat/committe boat duties via his kayak the last couple of weeks.
Mr.
Mangus is busy repairing the outboard on the official CBMRA Committee Boat.
We hope to return the boat to action soon. Once we do Jamie Mangus has
arranged for the boat to be stored at EYC for the winter season for $100.
Thanks to the Mangus brothers for all their help.
We
will be sailing this Sunday and I am looking forward to seeing everyone this
weekend. (I have completed my other obligations) I hope to have arranged a
time to get a copy of the starting tape. My copy keeps disappearing. (Tim is
going to kill me) If you have it can you return it to me.
Sailing
starts at Noon on Sunday. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Ernest
Freeland
NOVEMBER 8, 2002 For all of you that missed it there is a great article in the latest issue of Spinsheet about the 914.
Sailing
starts at Noon, Sunday. If you can get there early to help Dave launch the
boat and set
the marks, he would really appreciate it.
I'll
be out of town for the next couple of weeks.
We
are currently looking for a place local to the Chart House to store the Crash
Boat (Tim's boat) for the winter season. If you can help us out we would
really appreciate it. The best case scenario would be to have a boat (this
would not be Tim's boat) that is kept in the water right at the Chart
House. (Like when we had use of the electric boats to set the marks.)
Why
we need help? It appears that SSA is not going to allow us to store it
there this year. We currently have individuals working with AYC and EYC to see
if they can help us out.
As
you know having a Crash Boat on-site is critical to the success of our sailing
season.
If
you have an idea or can help, please give me a call or drop me an
e-mail.
Ernest
OCTOBER 31, 2002
Well
needless to say the time change for the Chart House was not well received so
we will return to a NOON start time on Sunday's. Hope to see you all on the
3rd.
Ernest
OCTOBER 28, 2002
Sundays
are here!!!!
It's that time again folks. Sailing at the Chart house on Sunday's is set to return on Sunday November 3rd!
October 15, 2002
April 16, 2002 If the wind gods cooperate we will kick off Tuesday night racing tonight. We got rained out last week. Sailing starts when you get there with the racing beginning around 6 o'clock. Hope to see you there. April 2, 2002 Subject: CBMRA Tuesday's Start April 9th Tuesday's resume April 9th see you there! March 26, 2002 Results 3/24th In a bit of a hurry, here they are. March 15, 2002 So if you want to sail at the Chart House there are only two more weeks left! We will not sail Easter Sunday and then we enter April. Daylight saving time starts soon and so will be sailing at Kevins house's on Tuesday's. Stay tuned for an exact starting date. Drop me a note if you think you can make it Sunday. So get your boat out and ready for this weekend. Charge up your batteries. This is a great time to also get your boat ready for sailing at Kevin's house. If you need help getting your boat ready give Dave a call. He has volunteered to help everyone out. Some other important notes: 1)Membership dues are due NOW. After the 15th of the month you will lose your channel.Only a handful of you have renewed your Memberships so get to it folks. I don't like to be a D&^%$ about this stuff so come on and take care of it. I would hate to have to enforce the "Your not a paying member so you can't sail with us rule" but we need the money to be able to host a regatta and have some more great cookouts! It is a necessary evil so lets get it taken care of and behind us! 2)Regattas: March 30th - Cow Pond Regatta - Centerville, MD April 13-14,2002 Larchmont Invitational April 27th - VOR Regatta Hosted by CPM. Contact Dave Ramos for Info Region III Regatta - May 4th Norfolk, VA Regatta Info:http://www.cr914.com/regattas.htm See you on Sunday! Ernest March 11, 2002 No sailing was had yesterday. It was a complete blow out! Hope to see you all next week! Ernest March 8, 2002
See
you this Sunday. Some great sailing is to be had.
February 27, 2002
Good
day!
Sunday's
results will be out shortly I promise.
We
want to get you all back out there on the water with us. Maybe your boat is
damaged and you need something simple to get it going. Give Dave a call. He
has graciously volunteered to assist CBMRA members in getting back out on the
water. He'll fix your boat for next to nothing. Give him a call! 410-604-3907
or drop him an E-mail..daramos@starpower.net.
If there is enough interest he has even offered to have an open house at his
shop one Saturday. That way you can bring your boat over and we will get you
up to speed and back on the water. If an Open House interests you drop me a
line and we will set it up!
Also
please note that 2002 Memberships are due so you can lock in your
channels for the year. You must have a current membership to sail with us. It
is only $15 so settle up today!
Also
Larchmont is coming and we encourage you all to attend. Attached is an NOR
this Regatta is a great time. If you only every travel to one RC regatta
in your life this is the one to do. It is April 13-14th.
Dave
and I are finalizing the plans for A VOR Regatta in Annapolis. Should have the
plans in a couple of days. This regatta will most likely double as our Region
II Regatta as well, which means that you need your AMYA membership.
Let
me know if there is anything I can do or help you with.
Ernest
February 19, 2002
Gents,
I
have been kind of busy lately but will have the results out soon!
Ernest January 25, 2002
First
if anyone has the scoresheet from last week let me know so I can calculate the
results.
We
will be sailing again this Sunday at noon from the Chart House. The weather
forecast looks near perfect. I will be in Atlantic City helping out Dave so
I'll catch up with everyone next week.
By
the way don't forget about the Atlantic City Regatta tomorrow!
January 15, 2002
Good
morning!
Attached
are the results from Sunday sailing! They are calculated every which way for
your review.
As
I was reviewing the results I found a mistake in the averages. I accidentally
entered Jim Sag's results in Cedric Lewis's column. I'll correct that for next
time.
It
looks like we have had 27 different people come out and join us for Sunday
sailing! That is really great. The thing is I know there are several others
out there that are threatening to come on out. This level of attendance makes
me feel good about the strength of the class in Annapolis. So when you
come on out bring a friend that hasn't been in awhile. I know there are lots
of 914's that haven't seen the water in awhile.
Have
a great week!
January 14, 2002
Thanks
to all those who came out Sunday!
It
was blowing steady in the teens and gusting into the mid to upper twenties.
There was enough interest to sail so we did something different and set the
course up in Ego Alley and sailed from the Fawcett's dock. This made the
conditions much more manageable. Tim sent a nice windward leeward course.
A great time was had by all.
I
had to leave before the sailing got started so as soon as I get the scoresheet
I will post the results. It is my understanding that they filled up the score
sheet with results.
It
was good to see the return of some old faces...Boris, Sag, Dave Scott, and
Bucky all joined us. Newcomers George and Geoff returned for a second time.
Rumor has it that Geoff's first showing several weeks ago wasn't a fluke..he
had a strong showing this week with a possible 1st for the day. We'll confirm
that as soon as someone sends me the scoresheet. Also we had some of our youth
movement out as well. That is always good to see.
I'm
out of town for the next couple of weeks here. It looks like I'll be in
Atlantic City so I hope to see you all there for the regatta on the 26th..then
I am off to the Chicago show as well!
So
come on out and tune up your boat there are some great early Spring Regatta's
out. The Cherry Blossom is back as a one day match race event followed by Team
Race Regatta the next day. If anyone is interested in Judging those days
please let us know!
Information
for the above Regatta's can be found at www.rcyachts.com.
Also
CBMRA plans to return to the Larchmont Invitational Regatta and would like to
field two Teams of four this year..it is truly a great time. At this time I
know that Dave Ramos and Dave VanCleef and myself are attending. There seems
to be strong interest from Steve McLaughlin, Tim Mangus and Bucky...Debbie is
working on Jim Sagerholm to come check it out. If you are interested let me
know, we try to all drive up together. The regatta is April 13th and 14th.
(That Saturday and Sunday) You'll have a great time I promise!
Ernest
January 7, 2002
For
those of you who decided to stay home this SUnday you didn't miss anything. No
sooner did we have the crash boat in the water did it start to rain. We tried
to wait it out for awhile but final gave up.
Se
we will try again next week!
Please
note I need someone to volunteer to show up on the 27th and help take care of
things. I'll be out of town attending to the Atlantic CIty Boat Show. Let me
know if you can help.
December 31, 2001
Good
day!
Sorry
I have been a little lax in getting out the results, but I've been busy with
the holiday.
The
first set of results is for the 17th of December, we only managed three races
due to the light and fluky winds out there.
Sunday
the 23rd was a great day! We managed to get in 14 races on a windward leeward
course. Sorry you all missed it, since it was such a great day of sailing.
Finally
there was yesterday and test of your will to stand in the freezing wind and
race your boats. We managed to get in five races before we decided it was to
cold and windy.
So
we will see you next year at the Chart House!

December 27, 2001 CR-914 Sailing Last chance in '01
I
hope you had a great
holiday!
We
had a great time sailing last Sunday, the results will follow soon. Sorry for
the delay but I have been busy doing the holiday thing. We managed to get in
fourteen races last week. More on that later with the results.
So
come join use for sailing this Sunday at 1200HRS. Afterwards we will all hang
out and do a meal Dutch treat in the Bar.
Let
me know if you can make it, see you Sunday!
December 21, 2001
CBMRA
will be sailing this Sunday at 1200HRS as well as Sunday the 30th. You
probably have Monday off so come on out with your boat and get a little
sailing in. Got relatives in town? Bring them along, what better way to spend
a Sunday afternoon then sailing at the Chart House!
See
you Sunday folks!
Ernest
December 14, 2001
Happy
Holidays!
Just
a friendly reminder that we will be sailing at 1200HRS on Sunday at the Chart
House. If you think you can make it please let me know. Last week not many
people had shown up at 1215HRS so we bailed. Unfortunately some people showed
up late and we didn't have the opportunity to sail.
So
just a quick response would be appreciated.
See
you at the Chart House on Sunday!
Ernest
December 10, 2001
No
sailing occurred this Sunday. Dave VanCleef, Steve and I all showed up but no
one else did. We hung around until 1215HRS and then headed home. It was windy
which would have made for some fun sailing!
See
you next week at 1200HRS for some CR-914 sailing.
Ernest.
December 7,2001
Alright
we have already sailed 46 races this Winter, if you can call it that it sure
has been nice on Sunday's, season how many have you done?
Sunday
at 1200HRS marks the start of week five of Sunday sailing.
Hope
to see you all there.
Ernest
PS:
Tomorrow we are head to VA for some sailing for the day if you are interested
let me know.
December 3, 2001 LMYC Spring Invitational
Just
announced by Larchmont Model Yacht Club and Commodore Buttons Padin.
The
2002 LMYC Spring Invitational Regatta is scheduled for April 13-14th 2002.
This is one event that you don't want to miss, fifty plus CR-914s racing!
Arguably the best Model Regatta in North America.
Saturday
is a Club Challenge Event and seeding for sailing on Sunday for the Individual
awards.
Teams
are made up out of 4 boats sailing in four different groups on Saturday. The
low four boat combined score wins the LMYC Challenge. CBMRA fielded a team for
the last three years. We won 2 years ago but were not able to field a full
team of four last year. This year I would like to field two teams. So mark
your calendars for an amazing weekend of socializing, and sailing and let me
know that you are coming. All you need is your boat and a coat and tie for the
wonderful party Saturday night.
I
know you've read about it and heard me talk about it so come experience it for
yourself!
You
won't regret it!
See
you on the water!
Ernest
December 3, 2001 CR-914 Week 4
Sunday
offered almost perfect sailing conditions for the CR-914 winds around 10-12
knots and the seas relatively flat. The best part was we managed to set a
windward leeward course relatively parallel to the dock. It has been the best
course yet this year. While the weather cooperated the airwaves didn't. Both
the David's had interference problems that we couldn't seem to sort out. David
VanCleef was especially frustrated since he had just completely rebuilt his
boat and painted a new green. When asked Dave Ramos describes VanCleef's green
as "It is defiantly green, yup it is green alright"
Needless
to say it isn't hard to located Mr.. VanCleef on the course these days.
Attached
is the scoring.
All
of the results can be found at the link below. I've calculated the results
every which way as possible. I hope you find on that is too your liking! This
year I hope to award the Highpoint Trophy again.
On
Saturday a group of us are going to VA to do some sailing if you are
interested let me know. See you on Sunday!
Ernest
November 27, 2001 Sunday Results
Six
of us made it out for week three of Sunday Chart House Sailing. We set a
windward leeward course with the starting line near the top of the course.
This allowed us to avoid the dreaded downwind starts. The wind was ripping
in the first part of the day and died down for the second part of sailing
for almost ideal CR-914 sailing conditions, flat water and breeze. Even the
sun managed to come out at the end. The first half offered amazing wipeouts
and prompted one sailor to comment to Dave Ramos at the windward mark
"Now lets see if you can keep your rudder in the water longer then out
of the water."
Dave
VanCleef was perfect for the day in a borrowed boat until he had to leave
for another appointment.
The
results are attached, I didn't do as great a job in getting them all on one
sheet this week, but they are all there. Also all of the previous weeks
results can be found at:
You'll
notice that I am score using both the Tuesday Night Average Score system and
the more traditional system.
See
you next Sunday at 1200HRS.
Don't
forget about the VA Regatta Saturday the 8th. We are all meeting in front of
the FedEx Store in Riva at Festival at 700HRS. Confirmed attendees are:
Ernest
Freeland
Dave
Ramos
Steve
McLaughlin
Tim
Mangus (this might depend on the fish)
Dave
VanCleef
Jim
Coll (meeting us down there)
Let
me know if you can join us for a great day of CR-914 sailing!
Ernest Freeland November 19, 2001 Sunday Results and more.
Sunday
the 25th.
We
plan on sailing next Sunday please let me know if you are planning on
attending due to the holiday weekend. I need to know if there is enough
interest. I plan on attending and I know Fred does as well. If you could
drop a quick note to me I would appreciate it.
Sunday
the 18th Results
The
weather was warmer and the wind lighter when 11 of us showed up to sail on
Sunday. We once again set our windward leeward course with a gate at the
top. Unfortunately the wind direction mandated that we set a downwind
starting line. Not our favorite method of starting that is for
sure.
Attached
are the results. Let me explain since I have added some things to it. At
the top you will find the scores for yesterday with the average place
calculation to the right. Below that you find the cumulative score for the
"Series" and to the left of that the cumulative average for the
"Series." Please note the Cumulative Averages are not in order.
Moving
on.
As
we are all busy we are trying to start racing as close to 1200HRS as
possible. As of late we have done that fairly well. What we are going to
do is plan on scoring races for 2.5 hours from the time we start with no
races starting after 1500HRS. Of course we will still take our
"warm-up and drink" breaks but will still stop scoring races at
1500HRS. This will hopefully allow everyone to plan ther days a little
better so they can get down to the Chart House and sail as well as take
care of any other responsibilities.
Have
a great week and a wonderful Holiday.
If
you need the results in Excel let me know.
Ernest Freeland
November 13th CR-914 - Results Sunday the 11th
Sunday
marked the return to the Chart House for Sunday.
The
weather was breezy and brisk and big change from the weather we experience
on Tuesday's. We got off fairly close to sailing at 1200HRS with a little
delay from needing to lengthen the anchors for the marks. When it was all
said and done Tim and Lew had set two windward leeward courses for us to
sail on.
All
in all eight of us managed to brave the elements and get some sailing in.
I've
sent this as a .pdf which should be easier for you to open if you need an
excel version let me know.
Hope
to see more of you next week.
Ernest
October 31, 2001 CR-914 Sunday Sailing
It's
that time!
Dust
off those boats, charge up those batteries and loosen up those thumbs!
Sunday's are here!
On
Sunday the 11th of November at 1200HRS CBMRA resumes it's WInter sailing
season at the Chart House.
The
first race will commence at 1200HRS and we will sail for several hours.
Tim
Mangus has graciously loaned us the use of his boat once again with Mr.
David VanCleef allowing us to us his space at SSA for storage. If you can
volunteer to assit with setting the course please let me know. Help is
always welcomed and appreciated!
If
you can let me know if you are attending.
I
look forward to seeing you all on the 11th.
