February 04 2001 Sunday offered a great day for sailing. If only the wind direction would have been more accommodating! After we got the rescue boats fuel replenished Tim set a windward leeward course with a downwind start. This offered the best view of the starting line from the dock.Sailing got underway with 14 sailors, two of them up from VMYC, John Atwood and Eddie Wolcott. VMYC is the host of the Region 3's on March 17th. We even had a guest big boat, a Marblehead. It surprised me how well the little CR-914 did down wind against the much bigger and supposedly faster Marblehead. Often the Marblehead and CR-914 would arrive at the leeward mark at the same time. As the day wore on our numbers dwindled for people had other commitments. Boris arrived late but still managed to get some sailing in on the boat he "chartered" from Sag before having to return to meet a 2:15 deadline with Jenni. Maybe Boris will have a chance to repair Fishhook before next week, or at least send it to Dave for some repair. I later "chartered" Sag's boat and had some fun before lending it to a newcomer Mr. Drake, who did well for his first time. Maurice got off to a good start before having to attend a Christening at St. Mary's. Maurice certainly won the best dressed of the day award. I am glad to see that these gents' have there priorities straight to get a little sailing in. Kevin arrived late without a boat, something about skiing. Maybe next week we can get him at the Chart House with a boat, we'll see.
