The NYYC Leukemia Cup regatta The New York Yacht Club hosted the first annual Leukemia Cup model regatta at the beautiful Harbor Court in Newport, RI and the weather could not have been nicer. Dave Ramos with Chesapeake Performance Models was the Race Director and also brought charter boats for those sailors that did not have a 914. Racing started at around 1:30 and it quickly became clear that the wind direction would make the sailing a challenge. Local Sailors Steve McInnis, Amo Ross, Craig Nann and Travis Chamberland representing West Marine put in a very respectable showing when sailing against veteran 914 sailors like Brian Jobson ('09 National Champion), Chuck Luscomb ('06 National Champion), Al Dion and Jack Baldwin. Even with the fluky winds racing was tight and as the wind started to build the course was relocated to the floating dock and the fleets was rewarded with some of the closest finishes of the day. In the end Brian Jobson held off a hard charging Chuck Luscomb to take the win followed by Al Dion in third place. Trophies were presented to the winners
by Bill Koconis Exec. Director of the Rhode Island Thanks go out to Allison Brouillette, Scott Hawkins and Steve McInnis for there efforts in putting together this regatta as well as The New York Yacht Club for host the regatta at their fantastic Harbor Court Facility. We hope this will be a great start to a growing relationship between the CR-914 class and the Leukemia Lymphoma society. We look forward to continued growth and next years regatta.
